"What the Duck?" or "13- Didn't see that coming."

So the 2005 NHL entry draft lottery was just held in NYC, with the Penguins of Pittsburgh drawing the #1 bid to sign the player slated to be the next Wayne Gretzky (by the great one himself nonetheless). Second in the order is Anaheims Mighty Ducks. Where oh where did our beloved Sabres (who had THREE chances to win the lottery) place? 13th. Thats right. Its one thing to not land the spot, but for the UNLUCKIEST city in sports history to draw 13...what the duck? Pittsburgh is not going to be able to afford this kid. So what will happen? It will force a trade with either the Rangers, Capitols, Flyers, Maple Leafs, or Red Wings.

So much for small market competitiveness.

I hear ya. This is outrageous. I thought the point of being the worst was so that you could get the best player next year. Gah. so much for competitiveness......though I really really shouldnt complain at all....cause hockey is back...
